Anyway, after coming back from Msia, we should be mentally focused on starting the IVP season and cut out any other distractions.

Updates

There wont be any training this Wednesday as most of you will still have papers. That leaves us with one session this week on Friday same time 7pm. Attire: BLUE

Regarding jersey updates, we will be purchasing a set of jerseys again. SRC will be able to subsidize our spending. If we are to purchase just the top, we will be subsidized estimated up to $15. If we are to get a full set 1 top, 1 shorts, 1 pair of socks, estimated subsidy would be up to $30 i think. We will still be using the white one as one of our colours for the tournament. Please give your responses in the comments section, which includes helping to suggest the brand we want.

Updates

From now till the end of exams, trainings will be held only every Friday. But there is no training this Friday. Attire: BLUE

Also, Mr Chiang has mentioned that it would be good for us to go for long distance runs (10km) on Mondays or Tuesdays. We can do it as a team, or in your own groups. Just drag along a buddy to run with you if you dont like to run on your own. But the responsibility lies on yourself to maintain your fitness level. Be honest with yourself if you wanna do well for the competition.

Regarding the trip, We will most probably not go to Ipoh as certain conditions are not ideal for us to travel there. Instead, the outdoor activities can be done somewhere in KL instead, similar to what we expect in Ipoh. Trip duration will still remain the same. However, it may be possible to cut down the trip to 5 days duration ie. no outdoor activity. But do note that we will still be playing 4 matches during the trip, so 4 matches in 5 days might be too taxing for us. Note that everything remains the same unless there is an overwhelming response.

All the best for exams!

Soccer means so much to me.

Hey Guys,
Allow me to confer something which I’ve felt since the end of SUniG till date. As we turn our focus onto studies and the upcoming exams, there is no doubt that it should preside as our utmost priority, and the same goes for me concurrently. However, I think it’s also high time we, as a team set ourselves a goal for IVP this academic year. I genuinely believe most of us want NTU to achieve at least a semi-final placing. However, actions are not put in place to justify our thoughts.
Those who have consistently been coming for training have been the same few, some of us have minor injuries picked up over the course of the previous tournament, some of us preside work over soccer for the past weeks.
Yet, while it’s appropriate to take some time off, don’t you think that we, as players, hold a certain amount of responsibility towards the well-being of the team? Don’t you think that us, even though we are students first and soccer players second should at least contribute some time off our hectic schedule to maintain the welfare and status of the NTU soccer team? I understand opinions and priorities are relative to the individual, and I understand the situation defers from individual to individual.
I just feel for this team, that it deserves better from all of us, that it’s time we get together to determine the aim of IVP. No point if half the team is committed to the cause of doing well, and the other half not sharing similar sentiments. After all, we all love soccer for the fact that we rejoice when we win, and feel a pang of emptiness when we lose.
I hope as the future sweeps as by, we can come together as a team again. Hopefully, from Wednesday onwards. Thank You very much for your time. All the best for your exams!

This post was written by kennard.

Just to add, nobody's place is guaranteed for IVP. If your thinking, i will be back after the exams and fight for my place then, let me warn you that it may be too late. You would have only yourselves to blame if your lack of fitness, loss of your touches which you will for sure lose w/o regular training and your lack of commitment results in you losing your place for IVP.

For those who have been missing in action or completely vanished into thin air, pls at least have the courtesy to inform aaron or me of your availabilty for trgs and etc. It takes less than a minute to post on the blog or send a sms. This is directed especially to the players in the SUNIG squad.

Training Venue Changed

Due to bad weather, training has been changed to indoors. Venue will be either sports hall no. 2 or 3 at SRC. Bring SHOES. The Beep test will be conducted from 7pm onwards.

Updates for the Week

Training on monday and wednesday
7pm
Attire: Blue and Red respectively

For monday's session, those who have NOT taken the bleep test are required to bring shoes for the test. Upon completion of the test, the players will join for trg.

Training attendance have been rather crappy of late. I hope most of us can turn up for the last few training sessions before we go for the exam break. If school work are really piling up, at the very least try to attend one of the trg session and do another workout at your own time.

As one competition ends, Preparations for another begins

Guys,

I know we have just ended one competition, but preparations for IVP must start early. Many of you have trained hard for the past few months, and may be tired out from the competition. Some of you mite be thinking of taking a short break to recover fully from tiredness or injuries. But you have to sound it out so that we are aware of your progress. However, i trust that you are truthful and responsible towards the excuses you come up with.

There will be changes. So dont think if you are in the SUniG squad, you are half way to securing your place in the IVP squad. I see many putting their commitment to train (this does not refer only to SUniG squad, but others who also come down), wanting to prove your worth in the team, but i also see many not putting in the effort. Basically, we dont have the hunger. Certainly, none of us will wanna look back and regret putting in a poor performance for IVP. We have to start now and raise the level one step higher than SUniG.

There is no time to waste. This period would be a good time to rectify the problems we have. Also, it is a good time for your ownselves to work on your strength, fitness, gym work, ball skills and so on. Remember, it not only what you do on the field, but also how you improve on other aspects off the field. And what you do in training, will determine how you are gonna perform in competitions. So if you are not putting effort in training, then you better pull up your socks. I hope you all will stretch your commitment till we officially stop training for preparation of exams.

As mentioned, training is supposed to stand down to twice a week. However, some of us feel that it may be necessary to have a third session where we should be having at least one friendly match per week. We'll see how it goes.

So those who are carrying injuries, go and get it properly treated. It cant be possible that a minor injury takes such a long time to recover. It also means that you dont take enough care to treat your injuries.

I hope i have set the tone clear for IVP 2009/2010, because i dont wanna look back and regret not having done well for IVP again.

No Training This Friday

No training this friday.
Have a nice long weekend.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

The first part of our season has ended in the worst possible way. Let this be a wake up call for us that we have to improve and strive to play better football. I personally believe if we cant do it in SUNIG we cant do it against better stronger teams in IVP, unless of course we improve. Having said that, NUS finished third in last year's SUNIG games by just collecting three points (they lost to NTU and SIM). But in the end they went on to win IVP the same year. Lets take a little bit of encouragement from that. For those not informed, we are grouped together with SMU, NUS, RP and TP for IVP. Fight for IVP final 22 starts on wednesday. See you guys.

Training on wednesday.

NTU 2 - 2 SMU

HT: 1-2
FT: 2-2
Scorers: Aaron, Khai
Assists: KT, Zul

We showed some character in coming back from a goal down to level the match in the later moments of the game. This is what the NTU soccer team is about. A dubious refereeing decision to call for a penalty against us affected our gameplay. There will always be such incidents but we must come back stronger.

Apart from results, we need to show that we believe we can win. Yes we are still sitting at the top of the table, but the sequence of matches show that we may not be in favour to take the title. Nevertheless, there is still advantage of being at the top and it is only for ourselves to fail.

Every match is a tough match. Nothing comes easy. What takes to be a champion? The consistency to bring results in every performance, the believe and desire to win, no matter what opponents come your way there is no fear of failure. So come 5th October, I hope to see us keep fighting until the final whistle sounds. Whats more exciting is that on the day itself, SMU vs SIM will be held at NUS field 2 at the same time. Let's be mentally prepared. Its ours.

Updates for the week:
Training/Friendly Match on Wednesday 30th Sept
Be at the field by 7pm SHARP.
Attire: RED
Note that the combined uni guys will be having their FA Cup game so seniors please take charge. All other players in the SUniG squad are required to come down. Players like Jespal, Ahmad, Mutalib, Bul, Keesiang, Diyar are invited to come for the friendly/training.

NTU vs SMU

Sorry for the late post.

Attire as same as previous game.
White black black. Warm up with red.
Spare kit in case of clash or fussy referee: Blue Shorts and red socks.

Be there by 630pm.

A win would place us in a very good position for the gold. So whoever's given the oppourtunity to play do ur best. I feel we are stronger than our last year' ivp team(nodisrespect to the old boys). One of the reasons i believe is due to the team spirit and togetherness which was rather non existent during the last campaign. I hope everyone will help each other out by words of encouragements which was aplenty in the last game. Lastly, im am sure all of you would be experienced enough to not be complacent eventhough we won comfortably when we last played SMU in the friendly. Just for your info, NUS Thrashed SMU 6-0 or something close to that in a pre-SUNIG friendly; we all know what happen next. All the best!

NTU vs SIM photos

NTU 2 - 1 SIM

HT 1-1
FT 2-1
Scorers: KT, Khai
Assist: Leslie

Great win guys, good character shown on the field today. However, its only the start of SUniG, two more big games to go. I urge you guys to stay on your feet. Yes, we celebrate the winning moments tonite, but there is still more to do. So come next training, the attitude must be right. No cockiness, no sluggishness. Remember, you can only win if you show consistency in every performance.

It was a good team effort. There were brilliant moments in the game, and individuals stepping up for the team at the crucial moments when needed. Thats what WE are all about. Play of the day goes to Ferdihao, who bolted his way from nowhere to put in the tackle when SIM speedy star striker had his chance on goal. Goal saving tackle. Any votes for Man of the Match?

For those who did not get to play or felt he did not play well, dont get emotional. I stress that its a team effort. Even those who did not make it to the final 22, they came to support. They are part of the team. We win and lose as a team. I need all 22 to be motivated to play. You may come from the bench and change the game, score the winning goal and be the hero of the day. But without being motivated and have the hunger, you wont be able to do it. So others please help to motivate the other guys too.

Training on Friday 25/09/09 starts at 7pm sharp. Attire: BLUE

Jerseys
Almost everyone of you have taken your jersey except Keesiang, Mutalib, Bul and Jespal (if i'm not wrong)
Only 13 of you have paid me so far, i cant rem the other 2 names so please sound out if you were the one who has paid (Dont confuse me and please be honest)
Remember its $12 for the jersey. Please pay up on Friday.

Those paid so far: Nelson, Kok, Diyar, Zul, Fuhang, Manfred, Weihao, Kennard, Leslie, Peng, KT, Ahmad, Winston (That should be the 13 who have paid so far)

Lastly, anyone feel free to post your own comments in the comments section.

I will make a posting again tmr regarding our full attire colour. All 22 players are to be down at the field by 630pm SHARP. I stress, NO later than 630pm. As usual, help to prepare the water and everything else. I will check with Mr Chiang if we will have extra food like bananas/bread/gatorade provided.

But in any case, you are responsible for your own match preparations. Make it a point to hydrate yourself well the nite before the match. How you go about your eating, drinking and sleeping HABITS count towards your match preparations. If you have a long day in school, and is used to having a power nap before the game, go find a way to get it done.

Motivate yourself and think positively in the build up towards the game. Prepare yourself mentally and physically. Note that SIM are defending champions of SUniG and they will not be easy meat. Alrite guys, rest well and cya on Wednesday.

Cheers

Aaron

Training friday 18/09/09

Attire: RED

Training will start at 730pm sharp. Inform me, feroz or coach if you are unable to make it for training.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

ok just to share from yesterdays game.

Coach spoke to me after the game yesterday. He emphasized that he was unhappy on how the team was thrown out of the game by the opponents dirty tactics like diving in for tackles and etc etc. We gave them to much respect and we were to kind as footballers. He wants all of us to be stronger in heart and not to let opponents step on our heads.

Second point on characters on the field. (Our players watching the game from the touchline also agreed). All of us were to quiet in the field, as in there was not really anyone in the field that who could bring the morale of the team up. This is for sure is not the job of the captain only as almost all players especially the experienced should be able to encourage when the tough gets going. All of us are good friends off the field where we joke before, during, after trg and wherever possible, therefore when we are playing as a team, we should not have a problem communicating. Im not saying this has been lacking in the last few games but this weaknesses were exposed by a rather average, predictable TP side. And that is a cause for worry.

So as the first game of SUNIG approaches, lets all be in the same page and try to change a little bit of our game by being more daring and vocal while playing on the pitch. All who played the friendly against SIM and last year's SUNIG Game should know that SIM are no pushovers and certainly irritating as an opponent; their bench will taunt you, their keeper will use ridiculous waste time tactics, and their players will dished out ridiculously dangerous tackles and always always complaining to the referee for every decision against them, all to put us out of the game. Therefore, whoever that is playing have to be prepared mentally and physically.

Shoutout from Winston (99)

It is about time we build the character of our team. It is time we unveil our NTU tradition; players who are hard, players who play with their heart more than their brains sometimes, players who can take scolding’s on the pitch and players who dare to rise up to the occasion and help those around you but making sure that the NTU voice is louder on the pitch than those who are dying to play but yet have to sit on the bench because you, on the field, are supposedly better in certain aspects than him on that match day against that specific opponents.

What is with the year 1, year 2 etc and the seniors-juniors thing? Everyone who is in this team now arrived at this point based on certain merits and ability which coach thinks that you possess will help the team. Some of us can dribble well, some can shoot well, some can pass well and so many attributes that make you as the player you are today. But right now, what we lack in everyone is the hunger to win. Who do you want to win it for? I’m sure many of you have been seniors before and many of you have been through the junior/newcomer phase countless times. How many times do you feel that a player, who is longer than you in the team, makes a mistake or he is not putting his best effort even for the slightest incident and you want to ‘wake’ him up but was too afraid to speak up? How many times do you think that you are having a bad game and thus decide to retreat back into your hermit shell?

We need each other on and off the field. We need advices, comments, criticisms but I want to stress that they have to be constructive. Obviously, there will be times when in the heat of the moment, foul words came out and probably hurt someone or bruised the relationship. But the difference between man and boy is the ability to rise above that and talk it out over dinner or even just after training or a match.

I admit that many times in the game I lost the ball or misplaced a pass or got knocked off the ball and resulted in my teammates having to track back to retrieve it before something disastrous happens. But this is what a team is all about! We help each other first before the constructive remarks are going to be made. If a mistake was made, there is absolutely no point in hurling abuse in any form to your poor teammate. Are you going to chase his mind of out the game? PULL HIM BACK INTO THE GAME AND GET ON WITH IT!

Lastly, no matter how well or how badly we play as a team or individually on that fateful day, always remember that we are in it together. We will not win a game if I score 10 goals and we ship in 11 goals. But we will win a game if we manage to nip in one solitary goal of the game because of our teamwork.

It is time to step up and make your presence be felt on the field. Everyone makes mistakes and I always believe everyone must have the heart and soul to right the wrong while we can… while we are still in the game.

Regards,

99, Winston

Jersey Designs

Guys, more than enough choices already. It's time to decide. Post in the comments section which jersey designs you vote for. Note that NUS colours Blue or Orange, SMU yellow, SIM Black or Red

Jersey Designs

Choose your Jersey numbers WISELY

Let me list some guidelines for all of you guys to take note of upon choosing your jersey numbers:

1. Some priority will be given to seniors in choosing the numbers. ie. looking at which year you will be graduating in and also how long you have represented the NTU soccer team.

2. By mutual agreement between parties contesting for the same number.

3. May be subjected to Coach or Mr Chiang's decision to choose for you the numbers if needed.

4. Choose your NUMBERS WISELY, especially your 2nd and 3rd choices!!

This will certainly make everyone's job easier! So if all your choices are taken, we may give you a random number instead. Any queries regarding this issue you guys can come ask me. So EVERYONE please take some time to re-think and re-post what numbers you want.

Options planned for end of year (Updated)

Guys,

Here are some options that we will be considering for our end of the year team bonding cum training camp/trip. The trip duration should be 6D5N:

1. Travel to as far as Ipoh, which includes stopping over at Malacca for one soccer match and KL for 2 soccer matches, and a small outdoor adventure outing which may include white water rafting/caving
2. Travel to Malacca / KL and play friendly matches
3. Team bonding cum training camp held in NTU
4. Travel to as far as Ipoh, which includes stopping over at Malacca for one soccer match and KL for 2 soccer matches, and team bonding activities lead by a facilitator
5. Others (if you can suggest for other FEASIBLE alternatives)

Options for the periods where camp dates could be held on(NOT exact dates):

1. 19-24 Dec
2. 26-31 Dec

Do note that this invitation is extended to players who are not in the SUniG 2009 squad. Also consider that no Inter-Hall games should be played after CHRISTMAS.

Please post your comments and preferences in the comments section.

The list of players above are to be down for trainings in preparation for SUniG 2009. The GK Coach Yu will be around so the 4 GKs do need to come down for trainings. Please be reminded that this is not the final 22 and any drop in performances, attendances or attitude may still be subjected to being dropped from the squad as we have other players waiting to fill in the spots.
For those in Jollilads, do also note that there is no direct pathway to getting into the final 22 so do not show complacency. In fact, you should be the ones stepping up with the experiences gained in Jollilads.

I will need you guys to give me your shirt sizes and your 1st 3 choices of your squad numbers you want within the next few days. Hopefully i can get some shirt samples to show you guys but no guarantees. For those not in this list, if you want to place your order for your jersey(s), do let me know.

There will be training tomorrow. As a team, please take the initiative to help out in bringing the equipment to the Multi-Purpose Field 1 (MPF1 aka rugby field) Training will start at 730pm sharp. Attire: RED

For those who are not selected in this list, your season does not end here. After SUniG, you all will be invited back to train as we regroup and prepare for the next phase (IVP), inclusive of the year end overseas trip. So do not be disheartened as there is still a long way to go. I wish to see you all in the near future. If you need to seek some opinion regarding not being selected, you can speak to me.

Jerseys Issue

Guys,

Currently we are still trying to source for the brand of jersey that could cost us a reasonable amount of say $15 per piece. If so, i'm thinking we could get 2 sets of colours. And Mr Chiang mentioned that NTU SRC could sponsor for the printing of numbers. These 2 sets can be used for SUniG as well as overseas trips and IVP. So estimated total cost per person could be around $30 per person. I need some responses as to whether this is good to go? Or are there some violent objections?

Please note we dont have free jerseys for SUniG 2009.

For ordering issue, we will ORDER + PRINT for all the SUniG squad players from the list that coach will be coming up within these 2 days (ie final 22+ __). We can take additional orders from players who did not make the squad, but no printing of numbers to be done (need to let me know asap).

Friendly Match Summary

NTU 2 SIM 1

Scorers: Peng, Ahmad Khan
Assists: Muthalib

Good goals by both Peng and debutant Ahmad Khan gave NTU a hard fought victory over SIM. Pengster intercepted a sloppy backpass by a SIM defender late in the first half to put the first goal pass the on rushing goalkeeper. There were glimpses of Arsenal like passing play for some parts of the first half which drew cheers from the ever loyal fan club led by Khai.

However, SIM managed to sneek an equaliser early in the second half through a point blank header. No chance for our debutant GK Khairul. Despite all the frenzy, NTU had the last laugh when a long ball from NTU backline allowed NTU's 28 year old newbie-veteran to break the offside trap and drive in a tantalizing ball for debutant Ahmad Khan to smash in the winner.

Reflection on today's training

Today's training session wasnt a good one, i think you guys all felt it that way too. Attitude was lackluster, passes were sloppy and 1st touches were all going everywhere. We had a good game last friday, but the next session (ie today's session) was a poor one. What i shall try to emphasize is there is a lack of consistency in us. One moment a good game then next moment a poor session. We should make it a point to put in a consistent performance in every session we have, so that we can become a better team. Hope for a much better session this Wednesday. See you guys then.

Results of Friendly Match

FT score 0-0

Although it was a boring scoreline, it was a good outing for NTU as most of the players performed to their potential. As usual, NTU displayed an attacking style of play, with many runs down the flanks and keeping more possession. The only disappointing thing was nobody could get onto the scoresheet. Nevertheless, the hard work put in by the boys shows that everyone is determined to put in their best performance as our competition draws closer and everyone fighting for limited spaces in the team.

2nd Third: 1-0 Scorer: Kester Assist: Manfred
Final Third: 3-0 Scorers: Peng, Nadeem(PK), OG Assists: Khai

The trialists were given a friendly match in the midst of ongoing trial, in search of finding young talent to get promoted from the academy to join the senior squad. NTU set the tone right from the start, clearly showing who's men and who's boys. There were some good moments of quick short passing from the trialists in the 2nd third. Trialists, the selection is far from over and you have seen the intensity level of training for the seniors. So if you are hoping to make the squad, be prepared to put in lots of hard work. For the seniors, if you havent noticed yet, the intensity level of training has just gone up another level.
Please state if you had an assist to claim.

Training on 31/07/09

Training will carry on this Friday. REMEMBER to bring your SHIN PADS unless you wanna do extra training.

Note: About today's training session 11-a-side practice, although the side i picked were mostly senior players, we were clearly disorganised in general play, we dont seem compact and there was no flow in our game play. Also, we found it hard to get the ball out of defence. Give some credit to the non-bib side for some high pressing.

- The defence cannot OVER PLAY the ball in their own half, get it out to safe zones.
- If you are gonna make a dangerous/weak pass that would lead to a goal, think again! And dont repeat the mistake again the next time.
- There needs to be MORE off the ball running and support and ask your team mates for the ball.

Time to make the CORRECTIONS and step up one level as August approaches which means less than 2 months to SUniG.

I will be down for NTU training this Friday while the other Jollilads train at NUS to prepare for their final league game.

Results of Friendly Match

NTU vs Ang Mo Kio Utd
HT score 0-1
FT score 1-2
Scorer: Aaron
Assist: Feroz

2 moments of defensive lapse, weak clearances and not closing down tight enough on opponents saw us conceding 2 goals.. In general, our game play showed improvements compared to our first friendly. Although we played a good team, we must believe that we can produce consistent results no matter our opponents are weak or strong. ie to show character and win every game we get to play. Then it will only become a habit for us and it carries on during competitions. Thats what we havent been able to do. So step up if we are trailing, or take our chances and go for more if we are up. I am leaving the more detailed game play stuff out, we can work that out on the field. Still, comments are always welcomed. Anyone for the match report?

Match report Home Utd U18

On a rainy yet scorching Saturday morning, NTU began their reign under new coach Basir with an impressive 2-1 win against Home United Under 18.
The aim of the friendly was to execute the game plan practised during the previous training session on Wednesday, coupled with some tactical discussion on defending from set pieces and corners. With the plan fresh in the minds of the players, NTU started brightly, and took the lead through a Khai free kick which curled past the wall into the bottom right corner.
NTU followed up the bright start with Boon, Khai, Peng and Aloy raiding down the flanks, Ian and Manfred overlapping, Jin and Fuhang providing steel and incisive passing through the middle, Captain Aaron and Weihao providing a solid and stable defense line.
Showing their class and confidence, NTU again built up an attack from the back, this time allowing Peng to get a shot on goal, alas, the Home keeper proved equal to the shot.
Home United were being pressed back with the perfect execution of the tactics, however, they showed promise by creating a good goal scoring opportunity but only managed to shoot wide with only Tianci to beat.
As the first half frizzled to a close, the sun started to show it’s true colours and beat down it’s fiery rays of light and heat, resulting in NTU intelligently slowing it’s tempo and controlling the game as talked about.
Half time: 1-0 NTU
The second half began with debuts for Daniel, Neo and Wai Leong.
Home United kicked off the second half with furious intensity, closing down players with the ball and not allowing the same rhythm to be built up by NTU as per the first half. However, this pressure served to raise the game of NTU as KT drilled a through ball to Kester, who demonstrated his predatory instincts by smashing the ball into the back of the net, with a little help from Winston.
Home United, thou down were not out and came back strongly, scoring a beautiful goal which flew past the fingertips of Tianci. Finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, Home United threw the gauntlet at NTU, with their wingers taking on wing backs Neo and ex JJC captain Wai Leong, their strikers pushing further up the field and cross field balls being played. Twice, they managed to drill balls into the box, however this was repelled by the defense, led by Kennard.
Keeping their heads up and playing their game, NTU started to create more attacking opportunities, with KT showing off his dribbling skills, Winston providing all sorts of problems to their back line.
If anyone thought that the sun wasn’t hot at the end of the first half, they were wrong, as the rays of sunlight beat down on earth, causing temperatures to reach around 33°C, evaporating most water puddles on the field and allowing the referee to blow the final whistle.
Starting line-up:
First half: Tianci, Aaron (Capt), Weihao, Ian, Manfred, Aloy, Fuhang, Jin, Boon, Peng, Khai
Second half: Tianci, Kennard (Weihao), Daniel, Wai Leong, Jin, Fuhang (Kester), Don, KT, Boon (Neo), Winston, Peng
