Update on Training

Brothers-in-arms,

here's an update from monday's training.

1) next training will be at NTU, on thursday 630pm. this is due to the combined uni having a friendly match at bishan stadium on thursday.

2) there was a beep test conducted on monday, and there will be other tests conducted again possibly once school reopens. so for those who missed it, do upkeep your own personal fitness and health for these tests. those who took the test yesterday, lets take it as a reminder for ourselves of the uphill fitness task, and set ourselves personal goals and objectives to better our fitness in the upcoming tests.

3) a compulsory fitness regime of 4 reps of 2.4km (each under 10mins), with a break of about 5-10mins in between, is to be conducted at your own time. it is recommended on tuesdays or fridays, after our trainings, so that the momentum is carried forward from the previous day. all personnel are highly encouraged to conduct this fitness regime, or something similar to it, as our fitness will ultimately be evident if we don't put in the effort on our part.

cheers and see you on thursday.

Dear boys,
This being my first post on our blog, let me begin with saying that I am delighted to be back with the team. From what I have observed in the past two weeks, I am absolutely confident that we have a very promising bunch of guys in this team. Working together, we can take the team to a very high level of performance. It was heartening to see that each one of you have the will to excel and the hunger to perform and win.

We had the Beep test on Monday. Unfortunately, some of you could not make it for training on that day. But no issues, we will have more testing days as the training gathers momentum. Although for this time time of the season, the average Beep test scores were 'not bad', our goal is to have a team average of 11/5 in the test. More importantly, this needs to be achieved by end-July.
Looking at the situation that we get to train only 2 days a week and that the boys with the combined Uni team are training at NUS, our set goals can only be realised if you guys can put in some extra effort in addition to the training days. At this point, I am looking at one added day of endurance training and one day of strength training.
As had been discussed, it would be serve good purpose if you guys can do 2.4 km x 4 with each 2.4 km rep within 10 min with a break of 5 min between 2 reps. Preferably try to do it on Tuesdays. Please remember that it is not the distance of 2.4 km but the timing of within 10 min that is critical. Please feel free to ask me any questions that you might have.

I will try to find a suitable day and time to give you guys a demo of the strength training that needs to be done during this part of the season. we should be looking at the core strength initially followed by soccer-specific strenght training.

In addition to to the training that you guys are doing, please remember that there are three absolutely vital components that each one of you has to take personal responsibility. Diet, hydration and rest. While you put in dedicated hard work during training, you also need to support it with eating the right food, drinking lots and lots of fluids and having adequate rest. Unless you look after these aspects in a disciplined manner, your gains from training will be compromised and eventually your performance is bound to get affected. So fellas, please understand this principle and look after yourselves.

We meet today evening @ NTU field. See you guys then.

Best wishes
Swarup
